【Yonsei University】LunaTone’s “Playable Creators” Delivers Special Roblox Game Development Workshops

As part of its “Playable Creators” game development education program, LunaTone conducted two special hands-on Roblox game development workshops on October 16 and 30, 2026, within the “NEW MEDIA & DIGITAL STORYTELLING WITH ROBLOX” course at Yonsei University in South Korea.

Through Playable Creators, LunaTone provides practical learning experiences that help students develop creativity, digital skills, and programming knowledge through game development.

Workshop Overview

  • University: Yonsei University (South Korea)
  • Course: NEW MEDIA & DIGITAL STORYTELLING WITH ROBLOX (KOR 2314)
  • Dates: October 16 and 30, 2026
  • Platform: Roblox Studio
  • Instructors: Hokuto Yoshinaga / Aoya Kota (LunaTone)

Workshop Activities

Lecture 1 (October 16, 2026): Introduction to Roblox Studio and 3D World Building

In the first workshop, students learned the difference between Roblox and Roblox Studio, explored the development interface, and practiced the basic skills needed to create their own 3D environments.

Through hands-on activities, including building furniture using Parts and creating landscapes with the Terrain Editor, students learned how to bring their ideas to life in a 3D world.

Lecture 2 (October 30, 2026): Creating Interactive Games Through Programming

In the second workshop, students were introduced to Luau, the programming language used in Roblox Studio, and learned how to create game features that respond to player actions.

They practiced building various interactive elements, including NPC conversations, graphical user interfaces (GUIs), sound effects, visual effects, moving platforms, obstacles, and teleportation systems.

By editing code and testing their creations, students gained a better understanding of basic programming concepts and interactive game design.

Using Game Development to Explore Social Issues

This course goes beyond simply teaching students how to create games. It explores how Roblox can be used as a platform for learning, storytelling, and raising awareness of social issues.

Throughout the course, students explore historical and social issues related to migration, refugees, and migrant workers in Korea, while learning how digital media and interactive storytelling can help communicate different experiences and perspectives.

As their final project, students aim to design and develop prototype Roblox games for migrant workers, refugees, and their children.

Through interactive gameplay, these projects aim to create learning opportunities that cross language and cultural barriers, while encouraging a deeper understanding of social challenges.

LunaTone supports this initiative by providing students with the technical skills and practical experience needed to bring their ideas to life, helping explore new possibilities for education and positive social impact through games.
